Phyllis G. (LeCronier) Curtis

Phyllis G. Curtis, age 91 of Kalamazoo, died at home under hospice care on December 14, 2022. She was born June 30, 1931, in Saginaw County, Michigan, the daughter of George Howard and Jessie (McKellar) LeCronier. On May 24, 1953, Phyllis was married to Donald Curtis, who preceded her in death in 1997.

For over 60 years she was a registered nurse in the Kalamazoo Area. She was a nursing instructor at the LPN Center, and later at her alma mater, the Bronson School of Nursing. She was also the in-service instructor at Paw Paw Hospital.  She was a member of several organizations including the MNA, ANA, and was a charter member of the Nurses Oncology Society.  She was also one of the founders of the free health clinic at First Presbyterian Church and of Kairos Hospice.

Phyllis enjoyed sewing and belonged to the American Sewing Guild. Phyllis was a member of First Presbyterian Church and was very active. She was a deacon, elder, youth fellowship leader, and went on 22 mission trips. She was an avid gardener and was involved in many activities from Cub Scout leader to hospice volunteer.  She loved travel and visited many countries as part of the mission trips, a groupie for her daughter’s bell choir and independent travel.

Her family includes her children: Jan (Jim Ketcham) Curtis, James (Sue) Curtis, and Emily Curtis; her daughter-in-law, Pat Curtis; her grandchildren: John Ketcham, Jasmine (Ben) Babcock, Jennifer Martin, Andrew (Melissa Bell) Curtis, Mary (Geoff) Shaughnessy, Sarah (Dylan) Zawila, Paul (Katie) Curtis, and Julia Curtis, and James and Anthony Curtis; several great-grandchildren, her sister: Margaret Murphy, sister-in-law Charlene LeCronier; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Donald Curtis and her son Theodore Curtis, sister and brother-in-law Edith and Bob Forbes, and brother Lyle LeCronier.

Friends may visit with her family on Friday, December 16, 2022, from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 PM, at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Burial & Cremation Services, 3926 S. 9th Street, Kalamazoo, MI 49009. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 17, 2022, at 12:00 PM, at First Presbyterian Church of Kalamazoo, 321 W South St, Kalamazoo, MI 49007. A private graveside service will be held at Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park, South Westnedge.
