Philip M. Suglia

Philip M. Suglia passed away on November 28, 2022, in his home surrounded by his loving family. Phil was born on February 1, 1947, to the late Victor and Rosalind (Weiner) Suglia in Bronx, NY. After high school, Phil went to serve in the United States Army. After his service, Phil took his passion for anything with wheels and a motor and became a car salesman for many years. Phil’s career shifted when he partnered with his father and opened a janitor service business for 23 years.

Phil was united in marriage to Laura Gates on November 5, 1983, and they enjoyed 39 years together. Phil’s greatest passion was his family and was blessed with 2 children, 2 stepchildren, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Aside from his family, Phil also enjoyed times at the Kalamazoo Speedway, car shows, camping trips and his pool.

Phil is survived by his wife Laura; his sons Philip Suglia and Ryan (Amanda) Suglia; his stepdaughter Melinda Garwood with partner Chandra and Lilly; his stepson Kevin (Anna) Bushouse; grandchildren Courtney (Shane) Kauffman, Devin (Jerry) Bushouse, Emma (Ethan) Bushouse; great-grandchildren Landon, Jonas, and Zayden; and best neighbors Randy and Colleen Loll.

A memorial gathering for Phil will be held on Thursday December 1, 2022, from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm and from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Langeland Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St., Kalamazoo, MI 49009. On Friday December 2, 2022, a memorial service will be held at 11:00 at Otsego United Methodist Church, 223 E. Allegan St., Otsego, MI 49078. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that memorial contributions be made to Centrica Care Navigators, 7100 Stadium Dr., Kalamazoo MI 49009 and to Otsego United Methodist Church, 223 E. Allegan St., Otsego, MI 49078.
