Penelope Jo (Hart) Taylor

March 17, 1946 — April 1, 2023

Portage

Penelope Jo Taylor passed peacefully on April 1, 2023 joining her Lord and Savior who she served throughout her life. Penny’s 77 years were characterized by her desire to serve her Lord, her family and others with whom she shared her many talents, gifts and love.

Born in Merrill, Michigan, in 1946, Penny’s early childhood years were spent on her family’s farm where she learned and honed several skills. Her pre-teen and teen years were spent at the family home in Lake Orion, Mich. where Penny pursued several leadership activities including president of Youth for Christ at her high school. She enjoyed singing  and was a member of a young ladies trio performing in church district competitions. Vocal music remained a major part of her life as she moved on to pursue a voice major at Owosso Bible College, in Owosso, Mich., and transferred to Marion College in Marion, Ind., completing her bachelor’s degree in music. During her academic years at Marion College, she met her future husband Myron L. Taylor.

Following their marriage, Penny provided much support for Myron who had enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. Together they traveled and lived on several bases throughout the country during his 6-1/2 years of service.

Throughout Penny’s life she worked in various occupations including schoolteacher, salesperson, daycare worker, office assistant and homemaker, to name a few. Despite her busy routine, Penny always made time for her family, church and friends sharing her talents in ministry and at home. She enjoyed cooking and baking, particularly catering church events, sewing, designing clothing, quilting, gardening, and lending her vocal talents to church choirs, children’s ministries and opera.

Sharing her life were the people that Penny loved and served. Her husband, Myron (deceased); sons Martin (Natacha), Paul (Melissa), and Brent (deceased); brother, Samuel Hart; sisters, Deborah Reynolds (Tom), Lori Soma (Ed); sisters-in-law Peggy (Byron – deceased), Sherrill and Serena Britton (Tim). Her 10 grandchildren and four step-grandchildren.
