Pauline Louise (Dorie) Bogus

Pauline Louise Bogus, age 95, passed away June 8, 2023 at Kairos Dwelling Home in Kalamazoo. She was born July 13, 1927 in Marquette, Michigan to the late Wilfred and Philomena (King) Dorie.

Pauline was united in marriage to Walter Bogus, Jr. on July 6, 1946. Much of Pauline’s working life was spent raising her nine children and keeping up the home, though she also held jobs with Michigan Bell, Hudson’s, and Chrysler Defense Engineering, and eventually earned her GED at age 60 from Escanaba Community College. She was a patriot and a woman of strong Catholic faith. She served for many years as a chaplain for the VFW and was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Parish in Portage. Pauline enjoyed going to the YMCA and the Portage Senior Center to have fun with her many friends, especially with her good friend, Dick Van Dyke. She was known for her delicious desserts, which she shared with family, neighbors, and friends.

Pauline was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Bogus, Jr.; daughters, Bonita Petrow and Rochelle Boyer; son, Mark Bogus; and her siblings: Raymond, Randolph, Edmond, Marie, Edward, Wilfred, Irene, Joyce, Francis, Wallace, and Eugene.

She is survived by her children: Walter (Rose) Bogus, Tom (Pam) Bogus, Jerome (Joanne) Bogus, Greg (Marina) Bogus, Dorie (Ron) Meltsner, and Bethany Marek; 21 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; sons-in-law, Jeff Boyer and Don Petrow; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial Mass will be celebrated Friday, July 28 at 11:00am at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 1150 W Centre Ave, Portage, Michigan 49024. A memorial gathering will follow on Friday, July 28 from 2-5:00pm at Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial & Cremation Services, 411 E Centre Ave, Portage, Michigan 49002, where a time of sharing will take place at 3:00pm. Pauline will be laid to rest with her husband at Ft. Custer National Cemetery, 15501 Dickman Rd, Augusta, MI 49012 on Monday, September 11, 2023.
