Patricia Arlene VandenBerg

Patricia Arlene VandenBerg, 88 of Kalamazoo, passed away peacefully at Woodside at Friendship Village on December 26, 2023. She was born on March 15, 1935, in Kalamazoo to Paul and Mary Jackson.

Pat married Leonard VandenBerg and they shared a wonderful life together. They loved to play golf; Pat played even after Leonard’s passing up until she could no longer swing a club. Even when she could no longer see the ball, she knew if it was a good or bad shot just from the swing. Pat and Leonard enjoyed antiquing and would often take road trips looking for special treasures.

Pat loved being with her family and gathering them for parties. She loved to plan and host events almost as much as she loved seeing everyone in attendance. Sometimes there was no special occasion for the party other than getting the family together and enjoying the memories they made.

Pat was arguably Rod Stewart’s biggest fan. She once hosted a birthday party in his honor and invited all her friends and family. She even had a cake ordered with his photo on it!

Girls’ trips were another great joy of Pat’s. She would plan a weekend with her daughters and granddaughters and always bought memory bracelets for them. One of her favorite girls trip weekends was to see a Rod Stewart concert in Grand Rapids with her daughters.

Pat also enjoyed old Western films and shows, John Wayne, and Willie Nelson.

Above all, Pat adored her family. She was a loving mother, a fun grandmother, and she taught her great-grandchildren to call her grandma great instead of great-grandma.

Pat is survived by her children Lorie (Loren) Eaton, Debby (Terry) Steinfeld, Julie Blanchard, and Mary (Mike) Doorlag, and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Leonard, sons Leonard and Scott, and brother Donald Jackson.

Funeral services for Pat will be on Thursday, January 4, 2024, at Langeland Family Funeral Homes 3926 S. 9^th St. Kalamazoo, MI 49009. The family will receive guests from 10:30 am to 11:30 am and the funeral service will begin at 11:30 am. A lunch will follow at the funeral home before burial at Mt.
