Nellie Cornelia Lingbeek

Nellie "Nell" Cornelia (Kloosterman) Lingbeek of Kalamazoo, Michigan, went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 29, 2024, at the age of 95. Nell was born in Comstock, Michigan, on February 1, 1928, to the late Cornelius and Cornelia (Yzenbaard) Kloosterman. In 1948, Nell married Dick Lingbeek. The two would spend 52 years together until his passing in 1999.

Nell is survived by her children, Carol (Patrick) Schewe, Rick Lingbeek, and Jan (Bruce) Berkenpas; grandchildren, Steve (Laura) Schewe, Chris (Alison) Schewe, Jason Schewe, Todd (Julia) Lingbeek, Mark (Angie Boot) Lingbeek, Andy (Amy) Berkenpas, and Megan (Ray) Simon; great-grandchildren: A.J., Nate, and Grant Schewe; Ty, Rylie, and Pyper Schewe; Kyle and Audrey Lingbeek; Hanna and Zohie Lingbeek; Lacey, Mady, and Eli Berkenpas; and Owen Berk Simon; nephews, Duane (Marge) Westrate, Ken (Ruth) Westrate, Jack (Carrie) Lingbeek, and Jim (Ruth) Lingbeek; nieces, Sally Worden, Bonnie Westrate, Jayne (Kurt) Nendorf, Barb (Mark, deceased) Pulver, and Sandy (Stan) Heeres; and her special friend, Evelyn Sportel, who was a great help to Nell in her later years.

Nell was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband; daughter-in-law, Donna Lingbeek; granddaughter, Tracy Lingbeek; brother and sister-in-law, Gare and Eleanor Westrate; and nephew, Roger Westrate. 

Nell Lingbeek was a faithful member of Covenant United Reformed Church. Nell spent her younger years working at Cavelier Printing and volunteering at her church, Park Village Pines, and Milestone Senior Services. Nell knitted many beautiful afghans for each family and, even in her last days, never missed sending birthday and Christmas cards to every family member.

Visitation with Nell’s family will be held at Covenant United Reformed Church on her birthday, Thursday, February 1, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., with the funeral and luncheon following at 11:00 a.m. It was Nell’s prayer that her 96^th birthday would be celebrated in Heaven with her Savior and with her husband. It comforts her family to know that her prayer was answered.
