It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Naomi Underwood at home under the care of Hospice Care on June 21, 2023. She was born December 20, 1920, in Massillon, Ohio, the daughter of Vern E. Reynolds and Katherine Hoff. Naomi was a remarkable woman who brought joy to everyone she encountered. Naomi was a graduate of Kalamazoo Central High School. While working at Shakespeare Company, in Kalamazoo, she met Harold Underwood. They were married on November 15, 1941 and they shared 64 years together until Harold’s death in 2005. Naomi was a recess mom at Oshtemo elementary school for a few years and volunteered at the voting booths at Oshtemo Township for several years. She loved to crochet afghans in which she gave away many to friends and family. Her artistic pursuits were equally important to her with painting beautiful pictures, which she started later in life. Naomi was a wonderful cook and baker. She will be remembered for her goulash, chicken and dumplings, but most importantly for her chocolate chip cookies. Her family cherished these and other moments spent with her. Naomi Underwood's legacy will always be remembered in the hearts and minds of her loved ones as a shining example of kindness, strength and generosity, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her children: Sandra (Mike) Carlson and Ron (Tiffany) Underwood; her grandchildren: Jessica (Mike) Carlton, Baird Carlson (and his family ;Lindsey, Torsten, Mason , and Aubrey), and Bryan (Lisa) Underwood; her great-grandchildren: Timothy, Alex, Abigail, Jane, Penelope, and Torsten; her great-great-grandson Grayson; her siblings: Leo Reynolds, Catherine Ovington, and Mary Jean Thomas; along with many nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held on Monday, July 3rd, at 11:00 AM at Riverside Cemetery, Kalamazoo. Please share memories of Naomi with her family at http://www.langelands.com
