Michael E. Shafer

Michael Edward Shafer died Thursday, November 23, 2023, from Stage 4 colorectal cancer. Mike was born on December 29, 1973, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, the son of Ruth and Robert Shafer.

Mike was part of the Kalamazoo business community and his company, The Technology Pool, provided IT services to businesses in southern Michigan.

When not working, Mike enjoyed listening to an eclectic range of music, boating on Gull Lake, and wearing a nice pair of shoes. Mike was a loving and supportive friend who enjoyed making people smile.

Mike is survived by his mother, Ruth Shafer of Kalamazoo; sister Sarah Shafer of Corvallis, Oregon; sister Martha Shafer-Thyen, her husband Elmar Thyen, nephew Sören Thyen and niece Arwyn Thyen of Wuppertal, Germany, nephew Tore Thyen of Düsseldorf, Germany, and niece Gwendolyn Thyen of Nijmegen, The Netherlands, kittens Kittalie and Micky, as well as his many close friends.

 In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to hospice care at Centrica Care Navigators (https://centricacare.org) or to a charity of your choice.

A Funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at 12:00 Noon at Langeland Family Funeral Home on 622 South Burdick Street in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Friends may gather from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Click here to view the livestream of Michael's service.
