Kalamazoo Active to the very end, Mike enjoyed his final 18 holes of golf with family and friends at the Ridgeview Golf Course, when he suddenly passed away. Mike was born June 1, 1970 in Kalamazoo, the youngest son of William and Norma Underwood Otten. He graduated from Mattawan High School in 1989 and worked in the family business, Otten Trophies for 15 years. He was employed by Premco Financial Corp. for the past 5 years. Mike was an avid golfer and bowler and a member of the Elks Lodge, #50 of Kalamazoo. He was preceded in death by his father in 1997. Mike is survived by his wife, Karen; his children, Chad Miranda Vander Meeden, Jason Erica Vander Meeden, Michael Shoals and Jessica Shoals all of Kalamazoo; proud grandfather to Cambria, Maci and Kayla; his mother, Norma Otten of Kalamazoo; sisters, Conny Greg Loftus of Orlando, FL, Nancy Wes Garman of Kalamazoo; brothers, Joseph Jane Otten of Kalamazoo, Ted Mikelyn Otten of Kalamazoo and Charlie Jody Otten of Kalamazoo; nieces and nephews and "Uncle" Thomas Preston; and his 6 dogs. Memorial services will be held on Saturday at 1:00 PM in the Hope Reformed Church, 910 Jenks Blvd., with Pastor Kent Frens officiating. A visitation for family and friends will be held at the church on Thursday and Friday from 5-8 PM each day. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Hope Reformed Church Roof Fund.
