Michael Jay Gruizenga, II

Michael Jay Gruizenga II, age 48, passed away at his home August 12, 2022. He was born May 4, 1974 in Kalamazoo, to the late Michael Jay and Deborah Jean (Heighton) Gruizenga. He was also lovingly raised by stepfather, James Engelman.

Michael loved classic cars and especially loved working on his little Patina truck. He also enjoyed photography, including taking photos while attending car shows and at historical sites.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Michael Gruizenga and Deborah Engelman; grandparents, Wilma and Richard Heighton, and Nicholas and Dorothy Gruizenga; step grandfather, Albert Engelman; uncles, Ronnie and Rickie Heighton; and aunt, Linda Gruizenga.

He is survived by stepfather, James (Crystal) Engelman; half-sisters, Rachel Haynes and Krista Coffin; aunts, Carol Rutgers and Tina Downs; stepsiblings, Jeffrey Engelman, Dora Abbott, Jonnie Dyer, and Jessica Pritz; step grandmother, Bertha Engelman; as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Michael will be laid to rest with his mother in Portage South Cemetery, where a private family memorial will take place.

Michael participated in no-shave November each year to encourage donations to Toys for Tots. To honor Michael’s memory, family and friends are encouraged to continue his legacy by participating in no-shave November and donating to Toys for Tots.
