Michael E. Foster passed away on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 in Kalamazoo. He was born August 18, 1951 in Kalamazoo, MI to the late Hazel Foster Michael was a graduate of Kalamazoo Central High School and Southern Illinois University, where he received a Bachelor of Science in Health Care Management. He joined the United States Army at the young age of 18 and served his country for over 20 years. During his service, he received several high honor awards, including the Army Service Award, the Army Commendation Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, the National Defense Service Medal with 1 Bronze Service Star, the Overseas Service Ribbon 3 times, the Army Good Conduct Medal with 5th Award, the NCO Professional Development Ribbon 3 times and the Sharp Shooter Badge Rifle M16. Upon retiring from the Army, he began working for Welch's in Paw Paw MI., where he retired after 20 years of employment. He is survived by his 2 sisters, Shirley Virgil Jameson and Mary Beth Fred Davies; 3 nephews, Ted, Todd Angie and Tim Gretchen Lyle; 6 great nieces and nephews, Tori, Theo, Tyler, Jake, Max and Zoe Lyle; 1 aunt and 2 uncles; several cousins. Michael was preceded in death by his mother; 4 aunts and 3 uncles. Michael loved spending time with his family, especially during the holidays, cook-outs and get togethers. Michael also loved his animals, especially his cats. He will be dearly missed. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 24, 2014 at 1:00 PM in the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St., with Pastor Steve Nichols officiating. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery of Kalamazoo, with military honors. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, beginning at 11:00 AM until service time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the ASPCA of Kalamazoo.
