Marilyn Gloria Van Hare

Marilyn G. Van Hare passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 13, 2023, at the age of 93. She was born to the late Meyer and Helen (Bonnerwith) Geffen in Brooklyn, New York on September 25, 1929. Marilyn attended two years at The City College of New York before attending Western Michigan University for her undergraduate and master’s degree. She taught English as a second language at Western Michigan University for 20+ years, beginning her career there in 1976. She was greatly loved by her students and touched the lives of so many. Marilyn was an avid reader and enjoyed art, plays and music.

Marilyn is survived by her wife and partner of 40 years, Terri Bruce; two sons, John (Debra) Van Hare and Tom Van Hare; 8 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and niece, Gail Condit. She was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters, Mildred Condit and Caroline Bershad.

There will be no services at this time. Those desiring to make a memorial contribution in memory of Marilyn, may do so to Kalamazoo Loaves and Fishes or the Humane Society of Battle Creek.
