Went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday morning, October 3, 2023. Marilyn was born December 15, 1947 in Harvey, Illinois the daughter of Marshall and Alyda (Zeldenrust) VanSchouwen.
Marilyn met the love of her life, Art, after writing to him through a pen pal listing of service men during the Vietnam war set up in the Christian Reformed Church publication, the Banner. Their friendship blossomed into a 54 year marriage. Marilyn found great joy in her family and being a mom and grandma. Helping out in the greenhouse soon became her life’s work, which she did with Art by her side. She loved raising beautiful flowers and could be quite particular about the best way to do it. Marilyn was talented in many things, but developed a passion and skill for quilting. She loved her quilting friends and the time spent with them sharing ideas and laughter. Marilyn had a beautiful smile and her gentle sense of humor that touched many people. She was very proud of each of her grandchildren and loved hearing about all of their interests.
On March 8, 1969 Marilyn was united in marriage to her loving husband Arthur, who survives. Also surviving are her children, Wayne (Michelle) Meinema, Karen (Bill) Diephuis, Renee (Tom) Stilson, Dale (Tabitha) Meinema; 12 grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Jack (Joy) VanSchouwen, Marvin (Laurie) VanSchouwen, Nellie (Dan) Bultema, Grace Leep; and many nieces and nephews. Friends may meet the family from 10:00-11:00 am on Saturday, October 7, at Third Christian Reformed Church, 2400 Winchell Ave, Kalamazoo, MI 49008 where a funeral service will follow at 11:00 am. A light reception will be held immediately following the service and private family interment will be in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park South. Memorials may be directed to Kalamazoo Christian Schools.
