Marilyn Jean McCaul, age 88, passed away January 6, 2023. She was born on August 25, 1934 in Kalamazoo to the late Richard and Connie (Dykens) Hiscock.
On October 10, 1952, she was joined in marriage to her high school sweetheart Hugh D. McCaul. Together, their love welcomed four children into the world, and they were later blessed with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Throughout their 66 years of marriage, they set the precedent on what a beautiful relationship looks like, with their unwavering love and devotion to one another.
Marilyn was employed from May 1965 to June 1995 at Bronson Methodist Hospital, eventually working as a manager in the Admissions Department up until her retirement. After retirement, she continued her dedication to Bronson Hospital by volunteering as a patient companion for close to 20 years. She took her volunteering commitment very seriously—oftentimes, her husband and family members would need to remind her that it was okay to miss a week so she could go on vacation.
Marilyn loved her family. Through the years she and Hugh enjoyed hosting many gatherings where family, yummy food, and good conversation were always at the center. They loved going cruising in their hot rods to local car shows and cruise-ins or taking day trips to South Haven to people watch.
As a grandma and great-grandma, Marilyn was devoted and always present. She made sure to attend every special occasion, game, recital, or school program she was invited to. She will be remembered for her loud and infectious laugh, and it didn’t take much to get her going. She was often found with her nose in a book or magazine, as she loved to read, and religiously watching her favorite soap opera. We are so fortunate that we got to love her and know her love for as long as we have.
She was preceded in death by her parents Richard and Connie Hiscock; her husband, Hugh McCaul; son, Martin McCaul; two grandsons, Scott Stratton and Nick McVay; a granddaughter, Angelina LaPenna; and her brother, Ron Hiscock.
She leaves behind her children: Mike (Diane) McCaul, Debra (Robert) LaPenna, and Karen (Rick) Stratton; grandchildren: Natalie (Jason) Harvey, Shelly (Tim) Rumpf, Angela (Anson) Mannes, Steven LaPenna, Kevin (Lynn) LaPenna, Elizabeth (Tyrone) Fleeman, Nick (Jill) LaPenna, and Lindsey (Jordan) VanBelle; great-grandchildren: Millie and Flynn Harvey; Brayden and Cameron Rumpf; Maria LaPenna, Tucker Fleeman, Andrew and Ella LaPenna; MacKenzie VanBelle; Fenix and Finley; and brother, Richard (Peggy) Hiscock.
