Marie Esther Lowe

LOWE, Marie Esther Portage Went to be with her Lord Saturday, December 16, 2006. Esther was born August 23, 1914 to William and Wilhelmina Huffus DeLeeuw. At the age of 4, she went to live with and was raised by Peter and Anna DeGrange, her aunt and uncle. She attended U-High, and later graduated from Portage High School. On October 4, 1934 she married Russell M. Lowe. She lived in Portage most of her life and her last 17 years in Oak Brook Estates. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, Aunt and Uncle, her sister Wilma, and five brothers, Richard, Raymond, Neil, Harold, and Wilber DeLeeuw. Esther is survived by her two children, Thomas Lowe Marian Rosser of Texas Corners, and Vicki Lowe of Portage; several nieces and nephews; and her dear friend, Evelyn Buckholz. She was employed by the Kalisign, Portage Schools and Smith and DeBree. She was a lifetime member of Lakeland Reformed Church where for many years she was an active member of women's organizations. Esther volunteered as a nurse's aide at Borgess Hospital, and later at Tender Care of Portage. She was also a member and volunteer for the Red Cross and helped out at the election polls. She loved to knit, cook, and travel. Visitation will be at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave. in Portage on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. A celebration of Esther's life will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday at the Lakeland Reformed Church at 10442 Sprinkle Road in Vicksburg with Revs. Mark Poppen and Ed Schmidt officiating.
