Margaret “Peggy” Whitlock, a resident of StoryPoint of Kalamazoo, passed away on February 7, 2024, at the age of 98. Born in Brooklyn, New York, she lived on Staten Island, spending summers on Woodland Beach and winters in the family home just a mile from the beach. Woodland Beach was owned by her grandfather and managed by her father. It is now part of the National Sea Shore.
Margaret is survived by her husband, John Whitlock; sons, J. William (Linda) and Andrew (Mary); three grandsons, Trevor, Justin, and John; and four great-grandchildren, Tyler, Gavin, Haley and Liam. She was preceded in death by her parents and younger sister, Katherine Anne Kudreiko.
During college vacations Margaret worked in the offices of Time Life Magazine. Then, following graduation from Miami University, she returned to work there until her marriage to John Whitlock on December 29, 1949. The couple had met at Miami University and were married for 74 years.
In 1950, the couple lived in Dayton, Ohio where son Bill was born. In 1953, new employment brought the family to Fremont, Michigan where John was employed by Gerber Products company. Son Andrew was born in Fremont in 1957. With both boys in school, Margaret worked as the elementary school librarian.
In 1987, John and Margaret moved to a lakeside condominium in Muskegon, Michigan and Margaret joined a quilting guild and became an active volunteer at the Muskegon Museum of Art.
In 2015, at the urging of their sons, they moved to StoryPoint of Kalamazoo to be closer to son Bill, a Portage resident.
