Manfred "Bud" Roy Martin

Manfred Roy Martin, affectionately known as Bud, was born to Manfred Hill and Lucile (Morris) Martin in Kalamazoo, MI on October 24, 1927, and died November 23, 2022.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy (Christman) in 2018, after 65 years of marriage.  He is survived by sons Manfred Wesley (Aurora) Martin of Portage, MI, and Randall Allen (Otilia) Martin of Austin, TX; seven grandchildren Manfred Dashiell (Mary), Chani, Tristyn, Kiana, John (Amanda), April, and Eric; two great-grandchildren Christian and Manfred Everett; and sister Barbara Morris of Shelbyville, MI.  Bud entered the US Army after graduation from Kalamazoo Central High School.  After serving in Europe, he then attended and graduated from Western Michigan University.  It was while at WMU that he met Nancy, and they married in 1952.  He attended the Life Insurance Institute, later obtained his CLU designation, and was a charter member of the local chapter.  He continued as an insurance agent in partnership with his father in Kalamazoo for many years.  Bud was a Shriner, Elk, and Rotarian and was an active member of the Kalamazoo South Rotary Club.  He and Nancy were noted for their foreign travels, often in conjunction with their philanthropic endeavors.  Recently, Bud and Nancy lived at Heritage Community.  Cremation has taken place, and a memorial service will take place Thursday, December 22 at 11:00am at Heritage Community’s Multipurpose Room, 2300 Portage St, Kalamazoo, MI 49001. Interment will follow on Thursday, December 22 at 2:00pm at Ft. Custer National Cemetery.
