Died Friday morning, December 23, 2022. Leonard was born July 19, 1931 in Kalamazoo, MI one of ten children of Cornelius and Gertrude (Kreling) Timmer. He was a graduate of Kalamazoo Central High School and Western Michigan University and worked in the paper industry for various companies. After retiring from General Foods (Post Cereals), he purchased The Western Breed in May of 1993; a retailer of horse tack and western apparel in Galesburg. Leonard liked playing games, teaching math to children, spending time with his grandchildren, and helping with auto and home building projects. He also did volunteer work with the local Christian Schools and drove the school bus for several years. On March 14, 1959 Leonard was joined in marriage to Leona (Doornbos), who survives. Also surviving are children, Cheryl (Bill) Moerdyk, Leonard W. (Mindi) Timmer, Timothy (Rachel) Timmer, Thomas (Lisa) Timmer, Lisa (Jamie) Wheeler, Michael Timmer; 23 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Nelson (Joan) Timmer, Cora DeBat, Ardith Marie (John) Polderman, William (Linda) Timmer, Gerald (Pauline) Timmer; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Henry, David, Art, and Adrian. Friends may meet the family from 2:00-5:00pm Saturday, December 31 at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, 3926 South 9th Street, Kalamazoo, MI 49009 and from 10:00-11:00am Monday, January 2 at the Kalamazoo Reformed Church, 5300 Comstock Ave, Kalamazoo, MI 49048 where funeral services will follow at 11:00am with Rev. Ian Macleod officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Providence Christian School.
