Leatha V. (Casteel) Root

Passed away Saturday morning, December 17, 2022. Leatha was born March 24, 1925 in Kalamazoo the daughter of Earnest and Viola (Melchi) Casteel. After raising her family, she worked for over 20 years with the Portage Public Schools in various positions until her retirement. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, painting and crossword puzzles and loved spending time with her family and friends. On November 18, 1941 Leatha was united in marriage to her loving husband, Wesley Root who preceded her in death on July 22, 2005. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Rosalie Root; son, Larry Root; grandson, Lance Root; and sisters Cora Kessler and Audrey Ranney. She is survived by her children, Linda Root, Garry Root, Tommy Root; 9 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Friends may meet the family from 5:00-7:00pm Monday, December 26 at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, 411 E. Centre, Portage, MI 49002 where funeral services will be held at 11:00am Tuesday, December 27. Interment will follow in Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery.
