Laquita C. (Farley) Stone

June 23, 1935 — January 11, 2023

Kalamazoo

Laquita C. Stone passed away peacefully Wednesday afternoon, January 11, 2023. Laquita was born June 23, 1935 in Hardy, Kentucky, the daughter of Luther and Allyne (Banfield) Farley. Laquita (Quita to many who knew her) graduated from Belfry High School in Belfry, Kentucky in 1953. She then moved to Kalamazoo, where she met the love of her life - James “Jack” Stone. They were united in marriage on December 20th, 1954. Quita worked as a secretary for a number of years at Fuller Transmission before she and Jack welcomed their daughter, Chauntel, in 1970. After spending time at home raising her daughter, Quita returned to work at Eaton Corporation and retired from there. Throughout her life, Quita was a faithful follower of Jesus. She attended First Baptist Church of Portage for over 60 years where she enjoyed singing in the choir, teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, and decorating the church for holidays and various events.  She was also an accomplished seamstress, making clothes, doing alterations, and quilting in her retired years.

Quita and Jack enjoyed 68 beautiful years of marriage, during which they shared countless adventures with their community of friends and family both in Michigan and in their winter home in Florida. Quita’s greatest joy after motherhood was becoming a Nana to her three grandchildren; Madison, Carson, and Casey. Quita led an exemplary life as a loving wife, a devoted mother and grandmother, and a kind and generous person to everyone who had the pleasure to know her. While she will be missed deeply by her family, her life is remembered as one fully lived and well loved.

She is survived by her husband, Jack Stone, her daughter, Chauntel (Todd) Spratt, her 3 grandchildren, Madison (Scott) Spratt-Stimetz, Carson Spratt, Casey Spratt; her sister, Nancy Horn; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents,  brothers, Jack and Frankie Farley and sisters, Majel Metzger and Betty Weddington. Cremation has taken place.

Friends may visit with her family and celebrate her life from 10:00-11:00 am Saturday, January 28 at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, 3926 South 9th Street, Kalamazoo, MI 49009 where a memorial service will be held at 11:00am.
