Johnny L. Thompkins

Johnny Leroy Thompkins, age 81, passed away peacefully on March 17, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Kokomo, IN on August 1, 1941, to William Henry and Gladys Louise (Young) Thompkins. Johnny was a U.S. Army Veteran, and proudly served his country. He attended seminary and became a pastor in the United Methodist Church. He gave his first sermon at age 15 in the 1st Baptist Church in Kokomo.  Johnny was also a program coordinator for the Federal Housing Program with the City of Kalamazoo. Johnny was united in marriage to Marilyn D. Woodman in Louisville, KY on July 23, 1988, and she survives him.

Also surviving are children, Sahlim Mustafa, Charles Thompkins, Honnee’ Thompkins, Davina (Drew) Kavanaugh, Daniel (Stephanie) Thompkins, Shalom Thompkins, Christian (Larry) Manley, Heath Thompkins, Cherlyn Hyde, and Tanya (David) Skinner; special cousin, Carolyn Sue Bell.  A special thank you to the caring staff at Centrica Care Navigators as well as Pastor Barrett Lee.

A private family interment will take place at Ft. Custer National Cemetery. There will be no other services. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to Centrica Care Navigators or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, in memory of Johnny L. Thompkins.
