John Wesley Emmons, Sr., age 90, of Kalamazoo, Michigan, passed away at Bronson Methodist Hospital on Saturday, June 22, 2024. John was born to Earl E. and Jewell (Skaggs) Emmons on December 8, 1933, in Doniphan, Missouri.
As a young man, John worked at McDonnell-Douglas of St. Louis for a year, then decided to head to Michigan in 1952, where jobs were more abundant. There, he met Reva (Ingram), who was also from Doniphan, Missouri, though they had never met previously, and they were eventually married in 1955.
John had recently started his employment at KVP Paper Company in Parchment, Michigan, when he was drafted into the Navy to participate in the Korean Conflict. Afterward, he continued working at the Parchment Paper Facility for a total of 39 years and 10 months before retiring at 59 years of age.
As a younger man, John was actively involved in the local Church of God, serving as a deacon, board member, and worship leader at various times. The family eventually ended up at Kalamazoo First Assembly Church, where many family members yet attend to this day.
July 2nd would have marked 69 years of marriage for John and Reva. Through that marriage, they were blessed with three children: Jodi (Doug) Morey, John (Heidi) Emmons Jr., and Carolyn (Jimmy) Horn. John had a special place in his heart for his grandchildren: DJ Morey, Jill (Lance) Neubauer, Aidan Emmons, Therin Emmons, Jaelyn Horn, and Wesley Horn, and his great-grandchildren, Jade, Kaia, and Luka Neubauer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his grandson, DJ Morey; his brother, Ron Emmons; and sister, Virginia Ingram.
