Joan Zelda Beard

Joan Zelda Beard went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 12, 2023. She was born in Wadsworth, Ohio on January 2, 1936, to the late John Herbert and Bertha “Louise” (Burkett) Weaver.

Joan attended The University of Cincinnati Ohio and earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She spent 50 years serving as a registered nurse. On June 7, 1958, she was united in marriage to Glenn Allen Beard. They raised four sons and were founding members of both the Oakland Drive Church of Christ and Comstock Church of Christ.

Joan was an avid bowler and world traveler. She made several mission trips to Africa and enjoyed adventures in Alaska.

Joan is survived by her sons Jeffery, Noel (Lori), John, and Thad (Tracy); four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and brothers David (Diane) and Keith (Jamie). She was predeceased by her husband of 44 years, Glenn.

Services for Joan will be held on Saturday January 21, 2023, at Comstock Church of Christ 1675 N 26th Street, Kalamazoo, MI 49048. Visitation will be from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm, a funeral service will begin at 12:00 pm and will be followed by a luncheon at church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to His House Christian Ministry or Michiana Christian Service Camp.
