Janice E. (Kemerling) Curry passed away peacefully on Thursday June 8, 2023, after a long fought battle with cancer.
Janice was born in Battle Creek, Michigan on April 5, 1936, the daughter of the late Harvey and Travadon Kemerling. She was a hairdresser for many, many years before retiring from Meijer Hair Salon.
She loved playing bingo, sewing, quilting and traveling, especially to Mackinaw Island, but mostly she loved spending time with her family and friends.
She married Charles Curry on January 28, 1956, who preceded her in death; she was also preceded in death by her son, Jeffrey and daughter-in-law, Lyndora, along with her parents.
She is survived by her children Pamela (Gary) Martin of Ohio; Michael Curry of Schoolcraft and Deborah (Steven) Collins of Kalamazoo; grandchildren Ashley (Jamie) Edwards; Chrystal (Andrew) Thompson, Chad (Valerie) Martin, Emileigh (Jason) Burroughs and Tyeler (Elizabeth) Collins; great-grandchildren Drew (Emma), Nevaeh, Addison, Harper, Tye’Lynn, Jaxon and Elijah. Also surviving is her brother Terry (Sue) Kemerling of Battle Creek along with several nieces and nephews.
There will be a Celebration of Life on July 8, 2023, from 11-2 at Hope Woods Apartments, 5749 Stadium Dr., Kalamazoo, Michigan.
As per her wishes, she donated her body to Western Michigan University Homer Stryker School of Medicine. Burial will be at Fort Custer National Cemetery at a later date. In memory of Janice, donations may be directed to Centrica Care Navigators (formerly Hospice of SW Michigan) 7100 Stadium Drive, Kalamazoo, MI 49009 or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
