Helen Mae DeWinter, age 94, passed away Monday January 29, 2018 in Kalamazoo. Helen was born March 27, 1923 in Kalamazoo, the daughter of John and Tillie (DeHaan) VerHage. She was a lifelong Kalamazoo area resident who enjoyed puzzles, reading, and especially loved sewing. The most important part of her life was her family. On June 7, 1947, she was united in marriage to Joe DeWinter, who preceded her in death on January 26, 1994. Her parents; her brother Lawrence VerHage and her son John DeWinter also preceded her in death. Surviving are her two daughters Nancy Mann and Joyce (David) Trader; four grandchildren Michael DeWinter, Matthew DeWinter, Dawn (Ryan) Gorski and Jeff (Angel) Mann; three great-grandchildren Justin, Catherine and Sarah Mann. The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 1:00PM Friday, February 2, 2018 at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick Street, where her funeral service will be begin at 1:00PM Friday. Interment will follow in Alamo Center Cemetery. Memorials in Helen's memory may be directed to Alzheimer's Association.
