Harry W. Hahn, Jr., loving husband to Carol, father to Laura Martin, Harry Hahn, III, Mark Shapiro, Ilene Harmon-McGough, grandfather to Matthew Harmon, Grace Shapiro, Brendan Schroeder, Liliannah, Leighvi, & Arlena Hahn, and Kyle Martin, brother to John & William, father-in-law to Kenneth Martin, Kimberly Shapiro, and Tim McGough, peacefully passed away on July 30, 2024, at the age of 77. Born in Newark, New Jersey, on January 29, 1947, he was the son of Harry W. Hahn, Sr. and Elva Hahn.
His love for electronics & mechanics drew him first to aviation and then to a career at New Jersey Transit for 23 years as a supervisor. After leaving NJ Transit, he worked for Indian Trails, then went on to work for Kalamazoo Metro Transit, and finally finished his career as Director of Maintenance and Facilities at Alexandra, VA Transit. His retirement job of 15 years was at Home Depot in Portage, MI, where he helped people find the right tools to complete their home projects.
The music of the 50s and 60s led him to sing backup for several famous groups, such as The Skyliners and The Duprees. He was also an Ambassador to the East Coast Music Hall of Fame.
His enthusiasm for the thrill of adventure led him to earn a pilot’s license to fly small aircraft and find the largest roller coasters in theme parks.
He loved to travel with his wife Carol, and as a result, they traveled on 34 different cruises (some of which his brother and sister-in-law joined them). This included singing in talent shows on the ships and touring many ports because he was a naturalist. Harry and Carol parasailed, jet-skied, and rode motorcycles while on these adventures.
A celebration of life will be held at Genesee Prairie Cemetery. His legacy will be remembered for the lives he touched and the kindness and respect he showed others.
