Gerald John Ridderbos

March 18, 1950 — January 19, 2024

Portage

Gerald John Ridderbos, age 73, of Portage, passed away January 19, 2024 at home surrounded by his family. He was born March 18, 1950 in Chicago, Illinois to the late John Eltjo and Emma Ann (Bloem) Ridderbos.

Jerry was married October 15, 1976 to the former Kim Warner, and together they had two daughters. Jerry loved his family dearly and was a great father and Papa—always there to support them. He even coached his daughter, Erica, in softball. He and Kim had many friends, and they always enjoyed socializing. They loved to take spontaneous road trips and go on cruises. For over 30 years, Jerry and the boys took an annual golf trip to Myrtle Beach. He was well-known at States Golf Course through the many leagues and golf outings he was a part of. He was also a member of several clubs—the Elks, Eagles, and the Moose.

Jerry was a collector of many things, especially tools. He was a self-employed carpenter for many years, working in many facets, before joining the union. He was often working on side jobs for others, as well.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Elly Gray.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Kim Ridderbos; daughters, Nicole (Chris) Noordyke and Erica (Eric) Blalock; grandchildren, Evalyn, Luke, Lizzie, and Weston; siblings, Grace, John, Marcia, Judy, and Jim; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at a date and time to be announced at the Portage Schoolcraft Eagles Aerie 3531, 11611 Shaver Rd, Schoolcraft, MI 49087.

Donations in Jerry’s memory may be made to the Kalamazoo Gospel Mission.
