Gerald H. DeBlecourt

Gerald “Jerry” DeBlecourt peacefully entered his heavenly home on December 31, 2023 surrounded by his family. Jerry was born on November 28, 1945 to Louis and Henrietta (Vlietstra) DeBlecourt. He graduated from Kalamazoo Christian High School. Jerry married the love of his life Dorothy (Peterman) DeBlecourt on October 6, 1967. They enjoyed 56 years of marriage and were blessed with 3 children. Debbie (David) Mensonides, Jeff (Carla) DeBlecourt, and Mike (Heather) DeBlecourt. Jerry’s priorities have always been his faith and his family.

He was a proud grandpa to Adam and fiancé Rebecca Mensonides, Zack and Katie Mensonides, Luke and fiancé Colby Mensonides, Amanda and Alden DeBlecourt, Jenna and fiancé Denver Campbell, Jared, Nicholas, and Kyle DeBlecourt. He recently became a great grandpa to Annabeth Mensonides. Jerry is survived by his brother, Dave (Beth) DeBlecourt; sister, Linda (Bill) Curtis and sister, Carol Nietering. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Henrietta DeBlecourt; his brother, John DeBlecourt; brother-in-law, Tom Nietering; and niece, Sara Houseman. Jerry co-owned Peterman Greenhouses where he and Dorothy worked for many years together. During retirement Jerry enjoyed fishing, hunting, growing hay, and spending time with his family and many friends. Jerry and Dorothy are long time members of Prairie Edge CRC where Jerry served as a Deacon and Elder. The faith that Jerry instilled in his children gets them through this difficult time. Friends may meet the family from 4:00-7:00pm Friday January 5, 2024 at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, 3926 South 9^th Street, Kalamazoo, MI 49009. A service to celebrate Jerry’s life will be held at 11:00am Saturday January 6, at Prairie Edge Christian Reformed Church, 9316 Oakland Dr., Portage, MI 49024. A light reception will follow the service and private family interment will be held in Harrison Cemetery in Schoolcraft.
