CULP, Mr. Gareth
Of Galesburg, Michigan Gareth passed away Thursday evening, January 21, 2010 at Borgess Medical Center. He was born December 8, 1935 in Kalamazoo, the son of Eldon and Rachel Shook Culp. A 1954 graduate of Vicksburg High School, Gareth served in the National Guard from 1955 to 1957. On June 27, 1959, he was united in marriage to Joan Williams in Kalamazoo. He was employed by General Motors for 28 years, until his retirement in 1993. He was a longtime member of Kalamazoo First Assembly of God Church, where in 2009 received an award for serving as head usher for 48 years. Gareth also was very proud of his miniature John Deere Tractor collection. Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Joan Culp; one brother, Donald JoAnn Culp of Arkansas; one sister, Mary Bill Homan of Mendon; three sisters-in-law, Carol Tom Sackett of Watervliet, Jean Ayres of Kalamazoo, and June Ralph Knapp of Delton; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Gareth will be at 4:00 PM on Tuesday at Kalamazoo First Assembly of God Church, 5550 Oakland Drive. Friends may visit with the family from 5-8 PM on Monday at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Avenue and on Tuesday from 3 PM until the time of services at the church. Private interment will be in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be directed to Kalamazoo Gospel Mission or Kalamazoo First.
