On March 19, 2024, Gail Karen Ingersoll went to be with Jesus.
She was born to Robert and Rachel Ingersoll on February 7, 1945, in Kalamazoo, Michigan. She has fought a good fight, and has run a good race, and is now ready to receive her reward in Heaven.
She received her RN and BS degree in nursing from Western Michigan University and then went to the University of Arizona and received a master’s degree in Pediatric Medicine. A few years later, she got her second master’s in nursing from WMU. After several years of nursing in this area, she then went to Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, Illinois, and started teaching there in the nursing department. After several years, she went to the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and taught nursing there for about three years. She left to do more hands-on nursing, which was her first love. So, she came back to the Kalamazoo area and went to work for Kalamazoo County as a nurse practitioner.
She was responsible for serving south Kalamazoo County, all of St. Joe County, and eastern Van Buren County. She was the only medical person that these low-income and migrant folks had. She loved this work and was good at it. She did this for about ten years until she became ill with kidney failure and had to quit on account of her disability. She has been fighting kidney disease for the past thirteen years and has been on dialysis three days a week all this time.
Gail leaves behind her brother, Max (June) Ingersoll; a nephew, Bob (Sonia) Ingersoll, with their children, Zach, Zayden, Bella, and a new foster baby girl; and a niece, Maxine (Gabe) Chapman, and their two boys, Bryce and Cayden. All of these children were Gail’s greatest love and joy!
A Celebration of Gail’s life will be held at 11:00 AM on May 11, 2024, at Langeland Family Funeral Home Burial and Cremation Services, 411 East Centre Avenue, Portage, Michigan 49002. Friends may gather from 10:00 AM until the time of service.
