Frederick B. Bekker, age 76 of Kalamazoo, died on October 21, 2022. He was born on October 27, 1945, in Indiana, the son of John and Ada Mae (Balmer) Bekker and moved to the Kalamazoo area as a child. As a graduate of Kalamazoo Central High School in 1963, Fred attended Western Michigan University and retired from Xerox in 2005. Fred met Elizabeth “Liz” Koole and they were married on July 10, 1965. Fred and Liz were inseparable and enjoyed many activities together with their family exploring the outdoors, camping, and canoeing. He was involved with the Portage area Boy Scouts for 25 years. They are members of Lighthouse Community Church where they have been very active. He is survived by his wife Liz Bekker; his children Kristjan Bekker, Eric (Joan Orman) Bekker, and Katie (Mike) Bunce; and granddaughters Aoife, Fiona, and Alice Bunce. He was preceded in death by his parents. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:30 AM on Thursday, October 27, 2022, at the Lighthouse Community Church, 4321 S. 11th St, Kalamazoo, MI 49009. A memorial service will be held at 11:30 AM at the church, with Pastor Doug Swink officiating. A reception will follow the service at the church.
