Ethelyn "Cissy" Marie (Ivens) DeHaan

Ethelyn Marie “Cissy” DeHaan, age 93, departed this life to be with her Lord on July 20, 2023. Cissy was born August 21, 1929, to the late Roger J. and Ula Maude (Armstrong) Ivens, in Worton Point, Maryland, a peninsula on the Chesapeake Bay, where she spent her childhood on a black angus cattle farm. The family moved to Kalamazoo in 1945.

Cissy spent her senior year at Kalamazoo Central High School and graduated from there in 1946. She soon met Robert (Bob) DeHaan, and the two were married on December 5, 1947. Cissy held several jobs through the years, beginning at the Kalamazoo Stationery Company, then Roberts Consolidated (SmithKline Beecham), and Durametallic Corporation, retiring in 1988.

After meeting Bob DeHaan, she began attending Kalamazoo First Church of the Nazarene, now called Cross Community Church of the Nazarene until she could no longer attend.  Then she moved to Provision Living at Oshtemo until she passed.

Cissy was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Bob DeHaan; her parents; brothers Elmer (Mattie) Ivens, Thomas Ivens, and Alvin Ivens; and brother-in-law, Lloyd Havens.

She is survived by her children Brenda DeHaan and Ken DeHaan, both of Portage; five grandchildren, Carrie Harris, Rob (Joisan) DeHaan, Jodi (Dan) Murphy, Bill (Jennifer) DeHaan, and Renee (John) Langford; seven great-grandchildren, Anneke and Decker DeHaan, McKenzie and Max Murphy, Jackson and Ella DeHaan, and Marah Langford; sister, Ellen Havens; sisters-in-law Ardis and Liddy Ivens; as well as many nieces and nephews.

A service to celebrate Cissy’s life and faith will be held Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at 11:00am at Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial & Cremation Services, 3926 S 9th St, Kalamazoo, MI 49009, with Pastor Kyle Fellows officiating. Friends may visit with the family Monday, July 24 from 6-8:00pm and Tuesday from 10-11:00am at the funeral home. Cissy will be laid to rest with her husband following the service at 1:00pm at Ft. Custer National Cemetery, 15501 Dickman Rd, Augusta, MI 49012.
