Edith Mary (Jerabek) Kleinhuizen

Edith Mary (Jerabek) Kleinhuizen, 92, of Portage, passed away Monday afternoon, February 6th, surrounded by family.

She was born April 22, 1930 in River Rouge, a daughter of the late Method Jerabek and Anna Baleja.

She was preceded in death by her sisters Ann Bren and Georgia Pinto, and the love of her life, her husband Charles Kleinhuizen Jr., to whom she’s been married since 1952. They made a great team. Their relationship was (and still is) admired by everyone who knew them.

Edie was a devoted wife and a proud homemaker. She was an active member of Trinity Reformed Church. She loved to sing and was an alto in various choirs for more than 50 years. She was a skilled cook, baker, and seamstress. No one would ever make it out of her house unfed. Edie was a natural conversationalist with a sarcastic sense of humor, and was always quick to joke and laugh—she was fun and sassy. She was generous with her money, attention, and time.

Her legacy lives on through her brother, Matthew Jerabek, and her four children: Christie Kleinhuizen, Charles Kleinhuizen III, Kurt Kleinhuizen (Donna), and Kip Kleinhuizen (Kathleen). She was an involved and beloved Amma to her eight grandchildren: Andrew Conroy, Caitrin Conroy (Albert Smith), Joshua Kleinhuizen (Stephanie), Monica Cook (Kenneth), Charles Kleinhuizen IV (Jennifer), Whitney Kleinhuizen, Valerie Kleinhuizen, and Marcel Kleinhuizen. She also leaves behind two great-grandchildren: Ellie Kleinhuizen and Harrison Kleinhuizen.

Services for Edie will be held Friday, February 10, 2023 at Langeland Family Funeral Home Burial and Cremation Services, 411 East Centre Ave., Portage MI, 49002. A visitation will be from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm and a funeral service will begin at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Edie's name may be directed to Doctor's Without Borders .
