Earl S. Hill

HILL, Earl S. Kalamazoo Mr. Hill passed away early Friday morning, December 8, 2006 at Heartland Health Care Center in Kalamazoo. He was born October 12, 1922 in Parchment, the son of the late Turpan and Nellie Stone Hill. Earl graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School in 1941. Shortly after, he joined the United States Navy and served during both World War II and Korean Conflict. Mr. Hill was employed by Upjohn Company, where he received the W.E. Upjohn Award, for over 20 years until his retirement in 1988. He was a life member of the Oshtemo United Methodist Church; a life member of F. A. & M. Mattawan #268; a past commander and quarter master of V.F.W. Red Arrow #1527; and Eastern Star Corinthian #123. On June 26, 1954, Earl was united in marriage to Virginia Drews in Kalamazoo, who survives. Also surviving are 6 children, Charles Susan Hill of Oshtemo, James Dawn Hill of Three Rivers, Jeanne Ken Washburn of Oshtemo, Michael Karen Hill of Scotts, Marion Hill of Oshtemo, and John Phyllis Hill of Fulton; 13 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; his twin sister, Pearl Kimball of Alabama, and sister, Bertha Allen of Oshtemo; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death are his parents; 1 brother, Charlie Hill; and two sisters, Margaret Jackson and Ruth Hill as a child. Funeral services for Mr. Hill will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th Street, with Pastor Suzanne Kornowski officiating. Interment with military honors will be in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park. Friends may visit with the family from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM on Wednesday at the funeral home, with Masonic services at 3:30 PM. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be directed to the Oshtemo United Methodist Church.
