Dorothy "Jean" (DAWSON) Dunleavy

Dorothy "Jean" passed away Sunday, October 6, 2019, in Kalamazoo, MI. She was born July 31, 1932, in Abingdon, IL the eldest child of the late Fred W. Dawson, Sr. and Dorothy (Cable) Dawson. Jean graduated from Belleville High School, Belleville, IL in 1950 and later attended Kalamazoo Valley Community College. Jean moved to Kalamazoo in 1955 and was a dental assistant for Herman G. Brown, DDS from 1967 to 1970. She was a member of First Congregational Church of Kalamazoo. On December 15, 1951, Jean married Harold D. Dunleavy in the Scott Air Force Base Chapel. Harold preceded Jean in death on April 30, 1988. Jean was also preceded in death by a brother, Joseph A. Dawson. Surviving are three children, Cathy E. Dunleavy of Kalamazoo, Carol A. (Dennis) Chandler of Portage and Patrick D. Dunleavy of Kalamazoo; a grandson, Carter David James Chandler; and four brothers, Fred W. (Patricia) Dawson, Jr., Donald K. Dawson, Jan A. Dawson and Gerald C. Dawson. Cremation has taken place. A committal service will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, October 24, 2019 in Ft. Custer National Cemetery, 15501 W. Dickman Road, Augusta MI 49012. Those wishing to attend should be in the cemetery assembly area by 12:45 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Michigan. The family is being cared for by Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial & Cremation Services, 622 S Burdick St, Kalamazoo, MI 49007.
