Dorothy L. Kaliati

July 9, 1957 — April 18, 2023

Dorothy Louise Kaliati age 65 passed away Tuesday, April 18, 2023, in Kalamazoo, MI. She was born July 9, 1957, in Elmira, NY to the late Richard W. Black Sr. and Emily C. (Landmesser) Wellman. Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her sister, Terry Adams.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Alicia Delgado of Elmira, NY; two grandchildren, Antonio, and Aries Sanchez; three great-grandchildren, Haven, Ezra, and Cruz Sanchez; three brothers, Richard, Allen, and William Black; sister, Jeanette Smith; special friend, Cleo Kaliati; fourteen nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and -nephews.

During her working career Dorothy chose to teach art, take care of the others, and become an advocate for the local Goodwill. She moved to Kalamazoo, MI in the early 90s where she received her degree from Kalamazoo Valley Community College.

Dorothy loved music; mostly oldies, making crafts such as cards and scrapbooking. She also loved going out to eat and shopping. Especially during the summer months where she would often sit outside and enjoy the weather while sipping tea, which was her favorite beverage along with ice cold water. She was also an avid reader and writer. She was a lively person who loved to GO.

Dorothy loved spending time with her great nephew Kamari Black and was a great aunt. Dorothy spent her final days at home with her niece Emily Black-Tillman and special friend Cleo Kaliati visiting her daily, going on car rides with Cleo and ordering in food with Emily.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at Shabach Tabernacle Church, 1133 Lake Street, Elmira, NY on Friday June 23, 2023, at 12 noon.
