Dorothy A. (Scott) Fuelling

Dorothy Ann Fuelling passed away peacefully on Monday, June 12, 2023, with her beloved husband and three children by her side.  She was born on January 30, 1930, in Detroit, Michigan to the late Horace and Nola Scott.

Dorothy was a creative, adventurous, spiritual and intelligent woman with a wonderful sense of humor.  In her long lifetime, she continually reinvented herself, believing in the importance of learning new things.  She learned to play the banjo and piano as an adult, graduated from the University of Michigan at the age of 48, and became an excellent artist.   She engaged in many adventures with her loving husband of 73 years, including considerable international travel.  They made many dear friends in their communities, which included Farmington, MI, Cheboygan, MI, Fairfield Glade, TN and Portage, MI.  These friends enriched their lives immeasurably and all shared many happy hours of playing bridge, golf and tennis, among other things.

Dorothy’s generous, playful and loving nature created a popular gathering place for her children and their friends for many years.  After launching her children, Dorothy worked as a teacher in Cheboygan before becoming a successful real estate agent.  She was also a grant writer for several arts organizations in Fairfield Glade.

Dorothy is survived by her husband Richard Fuelling; daughters Connie Speers and Terry (Scott) McNabb; and son Richard (Theresa) Fuelling; grandchildren Andrea (Michael) Groom, Kirk (Abby) McNabb, Kimberly (Jason) Babcock, Darren (Olivia) McNabb, Anna (Darian) Rogers, Travis (Mary) Fuelling, Katie (Brandon) Jaworowski, and Bonnie Fuelling; and 8 great-grandchildren.  Also surviving are her sister-in-law Rose Scott and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings Mary Lou and James, and beloved son-in-law Thomas.  The family is grateful for the loving care provided to Dorothy by the staff of StoryPoint for the past several years.

The family has arranged for cremation and a memorial service at Portage United Church of Christ, 2731 West Milham Ave, Portage, MI 49024 will take place at 3:00pm Sunday, July 16, 2023.
