Donald Charles Vosler

March 14, 1930 — April 2, 2023

Kalamazoo

Donald Charles Vosler, 93, of Kalamazoo, Michigan, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2023.

Don was born on March 14, 1930 to Donald Stimpson Vosler and Margaret (Schaffer) Vosler in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He grew up in Kalamazoo after the 1929 crash and in the midst of the depression. His biggest fans were his grandparents, Mabel (Ninie) and Charles (Bumpy) Schaffer. He graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School in 1948 and entered and served in the Navy. For the next nine years, he served in and around the Pacific, working on airplanes, ending his term on an aircraft carrier at the beginning of the Korean War.

He was honorably discharged and returned home, where he met and married Loretta (Eggen) Vosler,

deceased July 9, 2011. They became parents of Vicki (Vosler) Schroeder and Jae Vosler, divorcing several years later. He met and remarried Danuta (Mazota) Vosler, deceased June 27, 2006, and inherited a stepson, Andrew Karbowniczek. They remained together for the next 37 years, living in Michigan, Florida, and North Carolina until her death. He met and remarried Betty (Harrell) Vosler, deceased August 9, 2019. They lived in North Carolina and traveled extensively, relocating to Kalamazoo in 2019 until her death. Don remained in Kalamazoo and spent time with a girlfriend until his move to Memory Care and her death.

Don attended Western Michigan University and began his career in banking and finance. The majority of his career was with The Upjohn Company as an Information Technology Professional working on mainframe computers until he retired.

Don was an adventurer most of his life and had a willingness to try all kinds of things. That led him to traveling, first to Japan and the pacific while in the Navy, and later around the world as a tourist. He loved the outdoors. He camped up north and at the base of the Grand Canyon. He snowmobiled in the winter up north and also in Yellowstone. He boated and traveled up to Drummond Island. He went down the Mississippi River on a camper barge. He traveled up to Alaska and all over the US by Motorhome. His love of the water is where he loved to live and be. You could also find him trekking down a dirt road on minibike or in a jeep (likely without plates or legal)! Ever the charmer, he was able to talk his wife Danuta into a month-long boat trip on Lake Michigan when she was not able to swim. He charmed his wife Betty with a trip to Paris to propose. Many other stories of his charm, sense of humor and sheer stubbornness!

He is predeceased by his father Donald S. Vosler; mother, Margaret Vosler; sister, Ann (Vosler) Tenbusschen and her husband Robert Tenbusschen; grandparents, Charles (Bumpy) and Mabel (Ninie) Schaffer; and various aunts and uncles.

He is survived by daughters Vicki (Andy) Schroeder and Jae Vosler; and granddaughter Lia Schroeder; stepson, Andrew Karbowniczek; step-daughter, Daphne (Jay) Humplett and their children Will and Lauren; niece, Marsha Thurmond, and nephews David Tenbusschen and Steve Tenbusschen, and their children.
