Delbert Gene Gary

Delbert Gene Gary, 82 of Portage, went to be with his Lord and Savior on July 28, 2023. He was the son of Murmun and Grace (Bolhuis) Gary, born in Kalamazoo on December 7, 1940.

Del left high school to proudly serve his country in the United States Marine Corps. He rose to the rank of corporal as a rifleman and earned the Good Conduct Medal.

Del worked for Roto Finish as a mold maker for many years.

Del loved watching birds in his yard, he filled feeders for them and enjoyed seeing all the various species. Del and Donna spent many years travelling to Florida together during the winter, their beloved dogs would accompany them as well.

Del was a servant to his faith and had a strong relationship with God. He and Donna would often pray together and find strength in the bond they shared through worship.

Del is survived by his wife Donna; children Sandra M. Hoyt and Daniel M.L. Gary; grandchildren Skylar Hoyt, Jessica Rogers, Alyssa Britton, Anya Van Cleave, Brianna Johnson, Tony Gary, Amber Gary, and Dana Gary; several great grandchildren; brother James Gary; and many nieces and nephews. Del was preceded in death by his parents; his daughters Sandra Lee Gary and Kim Sue Eifler; and sister Dorothy Wood.

Delbert will be laid to rest at Fort Custer National Cemetery with full military honors on August 9, 2023 at 12:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in honor of Del may be directed to the American Heart Association and Bronson Cancer Pavilion.
