Doctor David A. Milko, 82, of Kalamazoo, entered eternal rest with his wife Marilyn at his side on June 22, 2023. He was born in Birmingham, Alabama on December 24, 1940, to John and Anne Marguerite (Nelson) Milko.
David was a devoted son, loving husband, cherished father, caring brother, well-respected physician and talented artist with a compassionate heart, sharp wit and silly sense of humor. He attended St. Joseph Catholic High School in St. Joseph, MI (now Our Lady of the Lake Catholic School), undergraduate at Michigan State University (1962) and University of Michigan Medical School (1966). He completed his medical internship and residency at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA. David was a Captain in the U.S. Navy serving as a Medical Officer in the aboard CVA John F. Kennedy and at Paris Island, S.C. Throughout his life, he continued to serve others as a skilled Ears Nose and Throat (ENT) physician in Kalamazoo and as a founding physician of HealthCare Midwest, at Bronson and Borgess hospitals and the surrounding communities. David enjoyed activities including swimming, jogging and bicycling and also enjoyed drawing and painting. David and Marilyn consistently supported the local music and arts community attending performances by the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra and Fontana Chamber Arts.
David is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Marilyn; children Lisa (Michael) Lukas, Karin (Chris) Whitwood, Erika (Justin Carter) Milko and David Milko Jr.; brother Carl (Elaine) Milko; grandchildren Mitchel Lukas, Zachary Lukas, Cailyn Lukas, Sofia Whitwood and Roman Whitwood; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A visitation for David will be held at Langeland Family Funeral Home 3926 S. 9th St. Kalamazoo, MI 49009 on Wednesday June 28, 23 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Another visitation will be at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church on Thursday June 29, 2023 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am with a funeral mass beginning at 11:00 am. A procession will lead the family to Fort Custer National Cemetery for military honors and a committal service the same day.
