Cole Vincent Lewis

Cole Vincent Lewis, 19, passed peacefully away unexpectedly on May 26th, 2023, from an unknown heart problem. He was born on September 17, 2003, in Kalamazoo, Michigan to Lisa Marie Lewis and Mark Vincent Lewis. He was a much beloved son, brother, grandson, and friend.

Cole was a graduate of Portage Central High School and a student athlete.  He lettered in track all four years of high school, was a men’s all-state track champion and lettered in football as a senior. Cole truly excelled as a 400- and 200-meter sprinter and relay runner.  During his high school running career, he medaled in numerous track events and in his senior year qualified for the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) State Championship in the 400-meter dash.  He also ran for the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) Blazer Track Club and in 2022 qualified and competed in the AAU Junior Olympics in Greenville, North Carolina.  This Spring he completed his freshman year of college at Saginaw Valley State University where he was majoring in business and ran for the university’s track team.  Most recently, he had accepted both an academic and athletic track scholarship to Davenport University in Grand Rapids, Michigan where he would transfer as a student athlete in the Fall.

Cole was loved and cherished by his family and friends.  His amazing personality and ability to engage with people made him quick to make friends and to develop deep and lasting friendships.  He was a dedicated, hard-working student athlete and regardless of challenge or hardship achieved the goals he set for himself.  His family and friends will miss him deeply, mourn his loss, and hold his memory and spirit in our hearts.

He is preceded by his grandmother, Elizabeth Lewis.  He is survived by his sister, Livia Marie Lewis; father, Mark Vincent Lewis; mother, Lisa Marie Padgett; stepfather, Rob Edward Padgett, III; and grandparents, Gail Patricia and James Douglas Reinhart and grandfather, Dean Vincent Lewis.

On Friday, June 2nd, 2023, a private funeral will be held.  Following the funeral, the family welcomes all those that would like to pay their respects and share their memories of Cole at a visitation to be held at Langeland Family Funeral Home at 3926 S. 9th Street in Kalamazoo, MI from 3:00 PM-8:00 PM.
