Charlyn June (Borton) Matthies

Charlyn June Matthies, age 92, of Gobles passed away March 1, 2023. She was born June 26, 1930 in Vicksburg to the late Leonard and Erma (Martin) Borton.

Char was employed at the Kalamazoo State Hospital and retired from there. She enjoyed painting, playing the organ, cooking, bowling, and archery.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Becky Matthies; sisters, Wanda (David) Burris, Ardith (Earl) Metty, Marilynn (Jack) Sawyer, Dolores (Francis “Lavern”) Smith; brother, Verlyn (Marilyn) Borton; and brother-in-law, Everett Denning.

Char is survived by her husband of 71 years, Wallace Homer Matthies; sons, Bob Matthies, Dan Matthies, and Joe Matthies; sister, Fern Denning; close friends, Esther Reinbold of Lawton, Jan Drummond of Gobles, Teri Burza of Gobles; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held Tuesday, March 7, 2023 at 1:00 PM at Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park South, 3941 S Westnedge Ave, Kalamazoo, MI 49008.
