Char went home to be with her Lord and Savior Saturday evening, June 17, 2023, surrounded by her family. Char was born January 14, 1933, in Kalamazoo, MI, the daughter of Herbert and Jessie Stell. Char was employed by Borgess Hospital for 22 years as a surgical clerk. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and treasured her family. She will be remembered for her kindness, fun-loving wit, and strong faith. Char was a member of Lakeland Reformed Church for many years and loved the Lord with all her heart. Char enjoyed traveling and camping and spent 14 winters in Florida with her late husband, Russ Smith. Char was preceded in death by husbands, Floyd Voss and Russ Smith; stepson, Dave Smith; brother, sisters, and in-laws, Dorothy (Wayne) Arnold, Herbert “Bud” (Nellie) Stell; and Marge (Gene) TenBrink. She is survived by her children, Deb (Rich) Gibson, Bob (Christy) Warren, and Steve (Kelly Tong) Warren; stepchildren, Dan (Barb) Smith and Scott (Kathy) Smith; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th Street, on Saturday, June 24, from 1:00-2:30 pm. A committal service will follow at 3:00 pm in the chapel at Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park on S. Westnedge with Greg TenBrink officiating. For those who desire, memorial contributions may be directed to Lakeland Reformed Church Memorial Fund or Family and Children Services in Kalamazoo.
