Charles LaVern Johnson

Age 61, passed away on Monday, May 13, 2024. Charlie was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, on November 2, 1962.

He graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School and completed the Welding Certification Program at Kalamazoo Valley Community College. He was currently employed at Summit Polymers.

Charlie was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed refurbishing furniture and coaching his sons’ sports teams. 

On August 6, 1988, he was united in marriage to Gloria D. (Paige) Johnson, who survives. Charlie is also survived by his mother, Betty Kirk; his sons, Charles Johnson, Jr., Chazarae Johnson, and Chalen Johnson; six grandchildren; siblings, Tina (Thomas) Menser, Yancey Kirk, Jamal Perry, Kerry Perry, and Anthony Gardner; special aunt, Mary Kate Gibson; numerous nieces and nephews, as well as aunts, uncles, and cousins. Charlie was preceded in death by his father, Gus Johnson, Jr., and his brother, Eric Johnson.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at 12:00 PM at Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial & Cremation Services, 3926 South 9^th St., Kalamazoo, MI 49009. Interment will follow at Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park, South. A time of visitation will take place at the funeral home, one hour prior to the service, beginning at 11:00 AM. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
