Candelario Murillo-Martinez

Candelario Murillo-Martinez died peacefully at his home Friday May 12, 2023. He was born February 2, 1940, in Penjamo, Guanajuato, Mexico son of Nicolas and Guadalupe (Martinez) Murillo.

Candelario, from a young age, was a leader in his community where he lived most of his life - in Mexico. Holding various positions from Deputy and Commissioner to Military leader. He was well respected among the community and looked up to for his intelligence and people skills. He has always been admired and loved by his peers and his community and was known for always wanting to help those in need and give back when he could. He was also part of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, as an ardent follower of Christ, and dedicated much of his life devoted to his faith and family.

Besides those in his community, Candelario was loved by his children and grandchildren and great grandchildren. His family always looked up to him for his generosity, guidance, experience, and overall demeanor. He has left his legacy in this world through his family, and the people that had the privilege to know him throughout his life. For those of us who know him on a personal level, he will always be in our hearts and memories.

Candelario was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and one brother. On May 13th, 1959, he married the former Virginia Alcocer who survives. Also surviving are his children, Refugio Murillo, Sara Murillo, Martin Murillo, Estela Murillo, Alicia Murillo, Ricardo Murillo, Lorena Murillo, and Candido Murillo; 32 grandchildren, many great- and great-great-grandchildren; brother, Fernando Murillo; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Services will be held 11:00 Thursday morning in the Kalamazoo Spanish SDA Church / SDA Iglesia Hispana De Kalamazoo, 729 Farrell Ave, Kalamazoo MI 49006. Interment in Riverside Cemetery will follow. The family will receive guests at the church beginning at 10:00 and again following the graveside service.
