Betty Lee (Garrison) Van Der Slik

Betty Lee Van Der Slik, 79, of Kalamazoo, passed away on August 25, 2022, at Rose Arbor Hospice Residence.

Betty was born in Moulton, AL, on August 14, 1943, to Roy and Thelma (McMillan) Garrison. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was united in Marriage with Ron Van Der Slik on October 25, 1968. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Kalamazoo, where she served as a deacon. She enjoyed taking many vacations with her husband and visiting various islands in the Caribbean. She was an active volunteer for the West Michigan Cancer Center for many years. She enjoyed being a mother and grandmother and loved spending time with her family.

Betty is survived by her loving husband, Ron Van Der Slik; her son, Chris (Michelle) Van Der Slik; granddaughter, Juliet Van Der Slik; brothers and sisters, Forest (Nancy) Garrison of Hillsboro, AL, Racine Rasmussen of Haslett, MI, Becky (Phillip) Gillespie of Trinity, AL, Vicki (David) McCullough of Moulton, AL, Melinda (Stanley) Allen of Trinity, AL; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Roy Garrison; her mother, Thelma (McMillan) Garrison; and brothers and sisters, Ann Hill, Nelda Kennedy, Cline Garrison, Glenda Garrison, and Rod Garrison.

Visitation will be held Thursday, September 1, 2022, 1-2 p.m. at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, 3926 S 9 ^th St., Kalamazoo, MI 49009, where a memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. Rev. Christina Westbury will officiate the service. Memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
