Betty Jane (Goerz) Mackay

Passed away Monday evening, January 16, 2023 at her home. Betty was born September 7, 1925 in Chicago, IL the daughter of Henry and Emelia (Porcher) Goerz. Her father died when she was very young and her mother married William Hecksel. Betty’s family moved to Coopersville, MI where she graduated from high school. She also graduated from Mercy Central School of Nursing in Muskegon with high honors in 1948. Betty was a registered nurse for 40 years and was a longtime member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church. On May 26, Betty was united in marriage to her loving husband of nearly 73 years, James Mackay who preceded her in death on May 7, 2022. She was also preceded in death by her parents; step-father, William; and brother, Roger Hecksel. She is survived by her daughters, Janice Mackay of Kalamazoo, Diane (Patrick) Hirigoyen of St. Paul, MN; grandchildren, Tracy (Derek) Sciacca, David Hirigoyen; brothers, Merle (Sandy) Hecksel, William Hecksel, Jr.; sister-in-law, Joan Hecksel; and many nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 11:00am, Thursday April 13 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 1628 East G Ave, Parchment, MI 49004. A light reception will follow the service and private interment will be in Ft. Custer National Cemetery.
