Betty J. (Gold) Canvin

Betty Canvin, daughter of Chester and Ruth Gold, born June 29, 1923, in New Castle, Indiana, passed away on October 21, 2022, after residing at New Friends Memory Care in Kalamazoo for 9 years.

Betty previously lived in Parkview Hills in Kalamazoo for 20 years. Preceding her in death were her parents, her four sisters, and her husband John Canvin. Surviving are her children: David Canvin and Elisa VandeMaele, son-in-law Denny VandeMaele, and her grandson Jason VandeMaele.

Love of family was of utmost importance to Betty. Education, reading, and “the Arts” were also important to her. She was a graduate of Western Michigan University with a major in Library Science. She worked as a librarian in Jackson, Michigan, at the Kalamazoo Public Library as the children’s librarian, and retired from the serials department at Western Michigan University.

A memorial service will be held at Parchment United Methodist Church in the spring.
