Barbara L. (Brogan) Casey

Barbara L. Casey, age 91 of Portage, Michigan, died April 21, 2023. She was born February 5, 1932, in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of James and Elizabeth (Mieke) Brogan. Barbara was a 1951 graduate of Immaculata High School. On September 29, 1956, Barbara married Gerald “Jerry” Casey in Detroit. She loved being a mother and wife and volunteering in her community. A longtime member of St. Monica’s Catholic Parish, she was active at church. Barbara also was a former chair of the Kalamazoo UNICEF Organization. She was a bank teller at National Bank of Detroit, American Bank & Trust, and First of America for over 18 years. Barbara enjoyed sewing and quilting and had a lifelong love of ice skating, including many years as a member of a figure skating group. She liked to bake and always made her amazing cherry pie for George Washington’s birthday. Over the course of her life, she visited all 50 states, most of them together with Jerry. Her sense of humor, puns intended, will also be remembered. Her family includes her children: Ellen (Cameron) Jaicks, Jennifer (Terry) Fernandez, Linda Casey, Daniel Casey, and Michael (Beth) Fialko-Casey; her grandchildren: Claire (Parker Eliot) Jaicks, Sydney Fernandez, Felix Fernandez, Sean Fialko-Casey, and Brette Fialko-Casey; her brother Thomas Michael (Linda) Brogan; and several nieces and nephews and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gerald “Jerry” Casey, her infant daughter Claire, her sister Marcelyn Benton, and her brothers James and Michael Brogan.

Friends may visit with her family from 10:00-11:00 AM, Friday, May 19th, at St. Monica's Catholic Church, 4408 S. Westnedge Ave, Kalamazoo, MI, where a Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 AM with Father Russell Homic presiding. A luncheon will follow the Mass.
