Born on December 12, 1925, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the daughter of Harold W. Wall and Ada Hudler Wall, Alice Elizabeth Wall passed away peacefully on August 30, 2024. Her parents, her brother, Dr. Robert F. Wall, and niece, Robin Wall, preceded her in death.
In 1943, she graduated from Ottawa Hills High School and was strongly encouraged by her family to attend college. She attended the University of Arizona, Tucson and earned a Liberal Arts Bachelor’s Degree with a major in Spanish.
She joined the Dow Chemical Company as a secretary and worked there for 19 years. She then relocated to Washington, D.C. where she worked for 17 years at The Bureau of National Affairs, Inc. as an Index Editor / Information Specialist.
Upon her retirement in 1990, Alice came back to Michigan to be closer to her niece, Robin. Alice became very interested in the Kalamazoo County services provided for persons with developmental disabilities. Robin lived in a Residential Opportunities Inc., ( R.O.I.) community and worked at McKercher Rehabilitation Center (MRC.). Alice joined advisory committees and advocated for Robin and her friends at R.O.I. and M.R.C. Alice was also a Democrat and was a member of the First Methodist Church. She met President Barack Obama when he was here to officiate at the graduation festivities for Kalamazoo Central High School in 2010.
In the Spring of 2007, Alice moved to an independent apartment at Friendship Village and had been a resident of that community for 17+ years, most recently in the facility’s Health Center where she was so well taken care of. Burial will take place on Thursday, September 5th at 3:00 PM at Grand Prairie Cemetery in Kalamazoo Township. A Memorial Service will be held at the KIVA Center at Friendship Village at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Alice urged making a contribution in Robin Wall’s name to either R.O.I. or M.R.C. To view Alice’s personalized guestbook, please visit https://www.langelands.com.
